Outlaw Inscribed Colt 1877 Lightning Revolver
Serial #104661, 38 caliber, "The most dangerous and unprincipled bandit of present day, always killing when an opportunity presented itself", The Gutherie Newspaper, Guthrie, OT. Bert Casey was one of the most ruthless criminals in old west history, and a point of interest is that it all took place in and around Guthrie, and across Oklahoma Territory. Having started as a petty crook and horse thief at an early age, he quickly moved on to robbery and more.., but far worse was the fact that he killed people every time, and even worse than that was that he made a common practice of killing innocent people. As one report shows that, to test the accuracy of a new Winchester rifle, he shot a farmer working in the field from some 400yards away. His gang was responsible for many violent crimes, where two of them were caught and put in prison, and later pursuaded to be deputized to catch or kill Casey, in exchange for a pardon. And so it was, two months later, they had managed to kill Casey and fellow gang member Bill Sims at Cleo Springs, IT. This historical western outlaw owned Colt revolver displays beautifully with a 6 1/2" barrel, showing 20% overall blue finish and shadows of original case color and beautiful grips, along with presentation style inscription on the backstrap "R.W. Bert Casey, El Reno, OT"., making this Oklahoma Territory outlaw's gun, a true find and prize of American history.
